Drive with Peace of Mind! MEX Insurance is Your Best Choice.

Welcome back to the MEX Rent A Car blog! We know that when you rent a car, safety is your top priority. That's why we want to clearly explain the coverages we offer and why it's worth getting them. This way, you can enjoy your trips without worrying about unnecessary things.

Essential Third-Party Damage Protection

First, you should know that at MEX Rent A Car, all our reservations in Mexico already include the mandatory RLP (Rental Liability Protection) coverage. This means you can legally drive in the country as you'll be covered for damages to third parties or their properties. This insurance is a support we offer, regardless of the channel or method you used to make your reservation. While it's an essential coverage for driving, there are still many aspects of the rental that remain unprotected.

CDW: Basic Coverage for Your Trip

For greater protection, we have our RLP+CDW (Rental Liability Protection / Collision Damage Waiver) coverage. This option limits your responsibility in case of total loss or total theft of the vehicle to a deductible of 10% of its market value. Additionally, you'll be protected against damages caused to third parties or their properties, up to a limit of $750,000 mexican pesos. This coverage is included in the base rate on our website mexrentacar.com.

It's important to note that this coverage doesn't include partial or total damages caused by meteorological events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods. It also doesn't cover partial theft, vandalism, or damages to tires and glass. However, with RLP+CDW, you can drive with peace of mind knowing you have basic protection in case of incidents.

Total Coverage for a Worry-Free Experience

If you want  the fullest protection, we offer our Total Coverage (CT). With CT, your responsibility in case of total loss or total theft is reduced to a 0% deductible based on the vehicle's market value. Additionally, this option includes protection for tire and glass accidents, as well as a wide range of benefits.

With CT, you'll have access to legal assistance if necessary, as well as coverage for medical expenses in case of an accident, up to $40,000 pesos per occupant. Moreover, you'll receive Roadside Assistance, which covers services such as emergency battery jump-start, tire change, locksmith service, and emergency fuel delivery, up to $5,000 pesos per incident.

Remember that, just like with RLP+CDW, Total Coverage doesn't cover partial theft, vandalism, or damages caused by weather conditions. However, the extended coverage of CT provides comprehensive protection and a worry-free driving experience.

Intermediary and Credit Card Insurances: Are They Enough?

You may have heard about limited insurances offered by intermediary companies and credit cards. However, it's important to consider certain aspects before relying solely on them.

Although some of these insurances claim to cover damages during your rental, in case of an accident, you will be immediately responsible to the car rental company for any damage or theft. Then, you'll have to go through a reimbursement process with the intermediary company, which can be complicated and subject to strict conditions. Additionally, many of them only reimburse a small percentage of the deductible, meaning you would pay most of the damages in case of an accident.

Moreover, many credit cards have geographical restrictions in their coverage, and Mexico is often among the uncovered countries. When declining the direct insurance with MEX Rent A Car, the deposit may significantly increase, reaching up to 100,000 pesos. For your safety and that of your family, invest in insurance that effectively protects you and makes your trip easier.

What about the Deposit?

The deposit amount varies depending on your choice. With RLP+CDW, the deposit using Visa or Mastercard credit cards is 10,000 pesos for cars, SUVs, and Vans, and 25,000 pesos for higher categories. On the other hand, with Total Coverage, the required deposit is only 1,500 pesos for cars, SUVs, and Vans, and 5,000 pesos for higher categories. In the case of American Express cards, the amount will depend on the type of car selected.

If you made a reservation through a third party and only have RLP coverage, please note that the deposit can range from 10,000 to 100,000 pesos.

In Conclusion

At MEX Rent A Car, we understand the importance of driving safely and with peace of mind.
