Mexico Terms & Conditions

ARRIVAL INFORMATION

After collecting your luggage, please proceed to the car rental area where you will find the Mex Rent A Car booth. A uniformed Mex Rent A Car agent will arrange the shuttle to pick you up and drive you to our main office to collect your vehicle. Shuttles are blue with the Mex Rent A Car logo. You can also call +52 (33) 4624 2114 for additional pick up instructions.

RULES

All customers should present the following documents in order to proceed with the rental:

Valid official ID (INE or Passport).
Valid Driver’s License.
Credit Card.

The same credit card or the same cardholder cannot be used to rent two or more vehicles within the same period of time.

Accepted method for deposits: Credit Cards (Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Discover, JCB and American Express).

Passport or INE must be valid during the period of the rental agreement. In the case of INE, it must appear in the electoral roll.

PRICES

All prices listed in the Terms and Conditions are maximum prices for the services. These may vary depending on our promotions, seasons, or locations.

GRACE PERIOD

Reservations will be honored for a period of 6 hours after the confirmed pick up date and time. After this period, we cannot guarantee the reserved vehicle, but you can be sure we will do everything in our power to provide you with a vehicle.

ADDITIONAL DRIVER

A charge of $10,42 USD per day taxes included applies to each additional driver. The additional driver must meet the same requirements as the main driver.

AGE

Minimum age permitted is 18 years old. An additional charge of $18,57 USD per day taxes included will apply for renters between 18 and 25 years old.

DEPOSIT

Required deposit depends on the coverage or protection selected, as well as the booking channel as explained below.

For all reservation made through www.mexrentacar.com, social media, call center or any of our direct reservation channels, the following deposits will apply:

RLP(Rental Liability Protection)

An additional authorization of $50,000.00 MXN will be required for cars, SUV’s and VAN’s. For special vehicle categories such as Premium SUV (Chevrolet Suburban or Similar) and Allterrain SUV 4x4 (Jeep Wrangler 4x4 or Similar, GWM Tank 300 or Similar) it is required to grant an authorization of $100,000.00 MXN.

RLP + CDW (Rental Liability Protection + Collision Damage Waiver):

An additional authorization of $10,000.00 MXN will be required for cars, SUVs and VANs. For special vehicle categories such as Premium SUV (Chevrolet Suburban or Similar) and Allterrain SUV 4x4 (Jeep Wrangler 4x4 or Similar, GWM Tank 300 or Similar) it is required to grant an authorization of $50,000.00 MXN.

CT (Total Coverage 0% deductible): You can check the costs of the coverage in the section "INSURANCE AND WAIVER OPTIONS".

An additional authorization of $1,500.00 MXN will be required for cars, SUV’s and VAN’s. For special vehicle categories such as Premium SUV (Chevrolet Suburban or Similar) and Allterrain SUV 4x4 (Jeep Wrangler 4x4 or Similar, GWM Tank 300 or Similar) it is required to grant an authorization of $5,000.00 MXN.

Reservations that includes RLP + CDW (Rental Liability Protection + Collision Damage Waiver):

An additional authorization of $25,000.00 MXN will be required for cars, SUV’s and VAN’s. For special vehicle categories such as Premium SUV (Chevrolet Suburban or Similar) and Allterrain SUV 4x4 (Jeep Wrangler 4x4 or Similar, GWM Tank 300 or Similar) it is required to grant an authorization of $50,000.00 MXN.

Reservations that includes CT / LDW / CTI (Total coverage 0% deductible):

Accepted method for deposit at the counter: Credit Cards (Visa, MasterCard, JCB, American Express, Discover, UnionPay and Diners Club,).

Upon termination of the rental agreement, MEX will immediately release the card guarantee, retaining the credit card scan for a maximum period of 30 days in order to cover, exclusively, any violations and tolls that may have occurred during the rental period and not reported by the customer.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS

CHILD SEAT: Children under the age of 4 are required to travel in Child Seats. There is a charge of $13,13 USD per day taxes included for each child seat. If the seat is not returned in the same condition, less normal wear and tear as received, a cleaning fee will be assessed. If the seat is damaged a repair or replacement charge will apply. (Subject to availability).

HOTSPOT: available for $21,27 USD per day taxes included. This device provides internet access. Please ask for details at time of rental. Only available in Tijuana, Mexico.

FUEL

Vehicles must be returned with the same amount of fuel as at the start of rental to avoid refueling charges.

ONE-WAY RENTALS

One-way rentals are available, a drop-off charge may apply and the price depends on the distance between the location of origin and the location of drop off. Vehicles with pick up in Mexico cannot have a drop off in the United States and vice versa.

GEOGRAPHIC

In case of crossing the border with the United States, an additional charge will be applied. For more information about our protections in the United States (USI), please ask our agents upon arrival. Option valid only for rentals originating in Mexico.

Crossing the border into Guatemala and Belize is not allowed.

No vehicles can be transported by sea (ferry, boat, etc).

MILEAGE

The mileage is unlimited.

DRIVERS LICENSE

All drivers must present a valid drivers license during pick up. In case of presenting a virtual driver's license, it must be presented in the corresponding application of the state or entity that issues it.

The license must be in Roman alphabet. In case you do not have a license in Roman alphabet, you must present a valid international driver's license during the rental period.

NO SMOKING

Please do not smoke inside the vehicle. If any smoke is detected, a cleaning fee will apply.

PAYMENTS

The following are accepted for rental payment: Debit or Credit Cards (Visa, Master Card, American Express, UnionPay and JCB).

No cash or vouchers of any kind are accepted.

PREPAID RESERVATIONS

Mex Rent A Car reserves the right not to deliver the vehicle if it considers that the driver is not able to drive or if the driver does not comply with the rules described on these terms, even if the booking has been prepaid. Therefore, it is very important that you familiarize the terms and the documents that need to be presented at pick up. For more information, please contact us at +52 (33) 4624 2114.

INSURANCE AND WAIVER OPTIONS

Mex Rent a Car includes the following coverage or protections in the rates listed on our website www.mexrentacar.com for locations in Mexico, when you make your reservation from Mexico.

Travel Light - RLP + CDW (Third-Party Liability Protection, Collision Damage Waiver with Deductible): Coverage for damage caused to third parties or their property up to $750,000.00 MXN. This limits the driver’s liability for the rental car to a 10% deductible of the vehicle’s invoice value in the event of total loss or property damage, as well as a 20% deductible in the event of total theft. Partial theft, vandalism, underbody damage, or damage to non-essential structural components of the vehicle, as well as damage to tires and windows, are NOT covered. Partial or total damage caused by weather events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods is NOT covered.

Drive Safe - RLP + CDW + LCA (Third-Party Liability Coverage, Collision and Theft Coverage with Deductible, Tire and Glass Protection): Coverage for damage caused to third parties or their property up to $750,000.00 MXN. Limits the driver’s liability for the rental car to a 10% deductible of the vehicle’s invoice value in the event of a total loss or property damage, as well as a 20% deductible in the event of total theft. Coverage for damage to tires and glass.

Partial theft, vandalism, underbody damage, or damage to vehicle components that are not part of the essential structural elements, as well as damage to tires and glass, are NOT covered. Partial or total damage caused by weather events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods is NOT covered.

Maximize Coverage - CT (Total Coverage with 0% Deductible): Limits the driver’s liability for the rental car to a 0% deductible of the vehicle’s invoice value in the event of a total loss, total theft, or accident. Includes coverage for tire and glass damage. Partial theft, vandalism, underbody damage, or damage to non-essential structural components of the vehicle are NOT covered. Partial or total damage caused by weather events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods is NOT covered.

You’ll have access to legal assistance if needed. This coverage extends protection against third-party liability up to a maximum of $3,000,000.00 MXN. Additionally, we include coverage for medical expenses in the event of an accident up to $40,000.00 MXN per occupant or the total number of passengers, depending on the vehicle’s specifications. Additionally, roadside assistance is provided up to $5,000.00 MXN per incident. Benefits include flat tire replacement, emergency battery jump-start, locksmith service, and emergency fuel delivery. Partial or total damage caused by weather events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods is NOT covered.

In the event of “Negligence,” the coverage will be void, and “THE LESSEE” will be fully liable for any damages, the cost of which will be charged to the contract.

“Negligence” shall be understood to mean any act of recklessness resulting in minor or major accidents, such as the vehicle being driven by a person not registered or authorized under the Contract, exceeding the speed limit, driving while in an unfit condition or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving in the wrong direction, etc., as determined by the competent authorities.

The protections and coverages described below are available when you purchase any of the packages offered in Mexico by making your reservation from Mexico.

CT - CT2 - CT3 - CT4 (Total Coverage): Limits the driver’s liability for the rental car to a 0% deductible of the vehicle’s invoice value in the event of a total loss, total theft, or accident. It includes coverage for damage to tires and windows. Partial theft or vandalism, underbody damage, or damage to non-essential structural components of the vehicle are NOT covered. Partial or total damage caused by weather events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods is NOT covered.

You’ll have access to legal assistance if necessary. This coverage extends protection against third-party liability up to a maximum of $3,000,000.00 MXN. Additionally, we include coverage for medical expenses in the event of an accident up to $40,000.00 MXN per occupant or the total number of passengers, depending on the vehicle’s specifications. Roadside assistance is also provided up to $5,000.00 MXN per incident. Benefits include flat tire replacement, emergency battery jump-start, locksmith service, and emergency fuel delivery. CT: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Mini and Economy categories. CT costs $48,42 USD per day, taxes included.
CT2: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Compact, Mid-Size, Standard, Full-Size, Hybrid, Mini SUV, and Compact SUV categories. CT2 costs $51,13 USD per day, taxes included.
CT3: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium, Luxury, Compact Convertible, Pickup, Mid-Size SUV, Standard SUV, Full-Size SUV, Minivan, and Mid-Size Van categories. CT3 costs $56,56 USD per day, taxes included.
CT4: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium SUV, Large Van, Off-Road, Sports Car, and Sports Convertible categories. CT4 costs $60,63 USD per day, taxes included.

LCA (Tire and Glass Damage Coverage): Benefits include flat tire replacement, emergency battery jump-start, locksmith service, and emergency fuel delivery. LCA includes coverage for tire and glass damage. Partial or total damage caused by weather events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods is NOT covered. Ask our agents for more information upon your arrival. The cost of LCA depends on the rental car, as explained below:

LCA: This coverage applies to Mini and Economy category cars. LCA costs $18,56 USD per day, taxes included.
LCA2: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Compact, Midsize, Standard, Full-Size, Hybrid, Mini SUV, and Compact SUV categories. LCA2 costs $21,27 USD per day, taxes included.
LCA3: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium, Luxury, Compact Convertible, Pickup, Mid-Size SUV, Standard SUV, Full-Size SUV, Minivan, and Mid-Size Van categories. LCA3 costs $23,99 USD per day, taxes included.
LCA4: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium SUV, Large Van, Off-Road, Sports Car, and Sports Convertible categories. LCA4 costs $26,70 USD per day, taxes included.

USI (United States Insurance): Extends third-party liability coverage up to $50,000.00 USD and up to $10,000.00 USD in medical expenses, divided among the number of occupants in the event of an accident within the United States. USI costs $15,84 USD per day, taxes included.

Travel Light - RLP (Third-Party Liability Coverage) Coverage for damage caused to third parties or their property up to $750,000.00 MXN.

Maximize Coverage - LDW (Coverage against damage and total theft with 0% deductible): Limits the driver’s liability for the rental car to a 0% deductible on the invoice value of the vehicle in the event of total loss, total theft, or an accident. Includes coverage for tire and glass damage. Partial theft or vandalism, underbody damage, or damage to non-essential structural components of the vehicle are NOT covered. Partial or total damage caused by weather events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods is NOT covered.

You’ll have access to legal assistance if needed. This coverage extends protection against third-party liability up to a maximum of $3,000,000.00 MXN. “Negligence” shall be understood to mean any situation of recklessness resulting in minor or major accidents, such as the vehicle being driven by a person not registered or authorized in the Contract, exceeding the speed limit, driving while in an unfit condition or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving in the wrong direction, etc., as determined by the competent authorities.

The protections and coverages described below are available when you purchase any of the packages offered for Mexico, provided you make your reservation from the United States or Canada.

CDW - Coverage against damage and total theft with a deductible: Limits the driver’s liability for the rental car to a 10% deductible of the vehicle’s invoice value in the event of total loss or property damage, as well as a 20% deductible in the event of total theft. Partial theft, vandalism, underbody damage, or damage to non-essential structural components of the vehicle, as well as damage to tires and windows, are NOT covered. Partial or total damage caused by weather events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods is NOT covered.

The cost of CDW will depend on the rental car, as explained below:

CDW1: This coverage applies to cars in the Mini and Economy categories. CDW1 costs $14,50 USD per day, taxes included.
CDW2: This coverage applies to cars in the Compact, Intermediate, Standard, Large, Hybrid, Mini SUV, and Compact SUV categories. CDW2 costs $15,86 USD per day, taxes included.
CDW3: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium, Luxury, Compact Convertible, Pickup, Mid-Size SUV, Standard SUV, Full-Size SUV, Minivan, and Mid-Size Van categories. CDW3 costs $17,21 USD per day, taxes included.
CDW4: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium SUV, Large Van, Off-Road, Sports Car, and Sports Convertible categories. CDW4 costs $19,93 USD per day, taxes included.

LDW - LDW2 - LDW3 - LDW4 (Full Coverage): Limits the driver’s liability for the rental car to a 0% deductible of the vehicle’s invoice value in the event of a total loss, total theft, or accident. It includes coverage for damage to tires and windows. Partial theft, vandalism, underbody damage, or damage to non-essential structural components of the vehicle are NOT covered. Partial or total damage caused by weather events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods is NOT covered.

“Negligence” is defined as any act of recklessness that results in minor or major accidents, such as the vehicle being driven by a person not registered or authorized under the Contract, exceeding the speed limit, driving while impaired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving in the wrong direction, etc., as determined by the competent authorities.

LDW: This coverage applies to Mini and Economy category cars. CT costs $57,92 USD per day, taxes included.
LDW2: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Compact, Midsize, Standard, Full-Size, Hybrid, Mini SUV, and Compact SUV categories. CT2 costs $61,99 USD per day, taxes included.
LDW3: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium, Luxury, Compact Convertible, Pickup, Mid-Size SUV, Standard SUV, Full-Size SUV, Minivan, and Mid-Size Van categories. CT3 costs $68,77 USD per day, taxes included.
LDW4: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium SUV, Large Van, Off-Road, Sports Car, and Sports Convertible categories. CT4 costs $75,56 USD per day, taxes included.

LCA: This coverage applies to Mini and Economy category cars. LCA costs $18,56 USD per day, taxes included.
LCA2: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Compact, Midsize, Standard, Full-Size, Hybrid, Mini SUV, and Compact SUV categories. LCA2 costs $21,27 USD per day, taxes included.
LCA3: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium, Luxury, Compact Convertible, Pickup, Mid-Size SUV, Standard SUV, Full-Size SUV, Minivan, and Mid-Size Van categories. LCA3 costs $23,99 USD per day, taxes included.
LCA4: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium SUV, Large Van, Off-Road, Sports Car, and Sports Convertible categories. LCA4 costs $26,70 USD per day, taxes included.

INSURANCE AND WAIVER OPTIONS FOR RESERVATIONS MADE THROUGH THIRD PARTIES.

All reservations with destination in Mexico, regardless of the means through which they were made, already include the RLP protection (Third Party Liability Protection) required to travel in the country.

If your reservation was made through a third party, we recommend that you verify the applicability of the insurance included in your reservation. The following protections will be available for reservations made for any office in Mexico through third parties as of December 5, 2022, and already include the partial protection RLP + CDW:

CTI – CTI2 – CTI3 – CTI4 (Total Coverage): Limits the responsibility of the customer over the rented vehicle to a deductible of 0% of the car value, in case of accident or theft. Accident protection for tires and windshield is included. Theft, vandalism or damage to parts and accessories are NOT covered. You will have access to legal assistance if it's necessary. This coverage extends the coverage of legal liability up to a maximum of $3’000,000.00 MXN. The liability insurance limits the responsibility of the customer over damages it may cause to third parties or properties only. Also, you will be covered for medical expenses in case of accident in the rented vehicle up to $40,000.00 MXN per occupant or up to the total number of passengers according to the characteristics of the automobile. Also, we will waive all, or a portion of, the cost of a roadside assistance service up to the amount of $5,000.00 MXN per incident. Benefits include emergency road service towing, winching, jump start, flat tire change, lockout service, and emergency fuel delivery. Some restrictions may apply, please ask for a copy of our RSA brochure at the rental counter. Partial or total damages caused by meteorological events such as earthquakes, hurricanes or floods are NOT covered. The cost of the Total Coverage options will depend on the rented vehicle category as explained below:

CTI: Vehicles that apply for this option are Mini, Economy. CT is $49,77 USD per day, taxes included.
CTI2: Vehicles that apply for this option are Compact, Intermediate, Standard, Full Size, Hybrid, Mini SUV and Compact SUV. CT2 is $55,20 USD per day, taxes included.
CTI3: Vehicles that apply for this option are Premium, Luxury, Compact Convertible, PickUp, Intermediate SUV, Standard SUV, Full Size SUV, Mini Van, Intermediate Van. CT3 is $59,27 USD per day, taxes included.
CTI4: Vehicles that apply for this option are Premium SUV, Fullsize Van, All Terrain, Sport, Sport Convertible. CT4 is $63,35USD per day, taxes included.

If your reservation was made through a third party for any office in Mexico and only has RLP (Basic Third Party Damage Protection), the protections available at the counter will be the following:

LDW: This coverage applies to Mini and Economy category cars. CT costs $57,92 USD per day, taxes included.
LDW2: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Compact, Midsize, Standard, Full-Size, Hybrid, Mini SUV, and Compact SUV categories. CT2 costs $61,99 USD per day, taxes included.
LDW3: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium, Luxury, Compact Convertible, Pickup, Mid-Size SUV, Standard SUV, Full-Size SUV, Minivan, and Mid-Size Van categories. CT3 costs $68,77 USD per day, taxes included.
LDW4: This coverage applies to vehicles in the Premium SUV, Large Van, Off-Road, Sports Car, and Sports Convertible categories. CT4 costs $75,56 USD per day, taxes included.

USI2 (United States Insurance): It covers damage to third parties up to $50,000.00 USD (liability) and $10,000.00 USD (medical expenses) divided by the number of occupants. USI2 is $25,36 USD per day, taxes included.

In case of doubts regarding the insurance included in your reservation, we recommend you contact our 24/7 Contact Center at +52 (33) 4624 2114 or customer.care@mexrentacar.com, our agents are trained to provide you with this information.

Early/Late Return: Your confirmed rental rate applies only to the exact reservation period booked. Returning the vehicle early or keeping the vehicle past the confirmed return date subjects you to an additional charge:

Early Return: A one-time charge of $30,16 USD taxes included will apply.
Later Return: A one-time charge of $36,19 USD taxes included will apply, additional to the rent rate for each extended day.

If you require an extension, please notify our call center +52 (33) 4624 2114.

Multiple or Duplicate Reservations: If you require multiple vehicles for the same or overlapping time periods, please make sure to use a different name for each reservation, otherwise the duplicate name reservations will be automatically canceled. Mex Rent A Car will not be responsible for such cancellations.

ONLINE BOOKINGS

Rates that are impacted by a website technical issue, database issue or other means will not be honored by the location if the rate display was inaccurate due to a technical issue or tampering issue to change the rate display.

EXCHANGE RATE

Due fluctuations on the currency exchange rate, have in mind that the total charged on your credit card might differ from the total displayed on our website. The difference (if any) will depend on the currency exchange rate between the moment when the booking was made and the moment when the charge is reflected on your credit card statement. In the event we have to refund any amount to your account, we will refund the exact same amount charged originally and we will not be responsible for any currency fluctuation that may occur and that results in a higher or lower refund than the one expected.

CANCELLATIONS

If your reservation was confirmed through the website www.mexrentacar.com or through our Reservation Center at +52 (33) 4624 2114, please use the same channel to cancel it. If your reservation was confirmed through a third party site (broker, online travel agency, etc.) please use the same channel to request your cancellation. Some third party sites have cancellation fees if the reservation is not canceled within a certain period of time prior to your rental. Mex Rent A Car is not responsible for such cancellation fees.

If your reservation was confirmed via telephone or social networks through the payment link, you can request cancellation up to 5 days before the date and time of pick up, you will receive a full refund of your reservation. In case of cancellation less than 5 days before the date and time of your reservation, a 20% penalty will be applied on the total value of your reservation, receiving a partial refund of 80% of the total value of the reservation.

If you need to make date changes to your reservation, please contact atencion@mexrentacar.com. In case this change represents an increase in the rate, this payment can be made over the counter. No refund can be made in case of a lower rate. Once a date change is made, the cancellation policy will apply with a penalty of 20% of the total value of your reservation, receiving a partial refund of 80% of the total value of your reservation.

ARCO RIGHTS

You have the right to know what personal information we have about you, what we use it for and the conditions of the use we make of it (access). Likewise, it is your right to request the correction of personal information in case it is outdated, inaccurate or incomplete (rectification); that we remove it from our records or database when you consider that it is not being used properly (cancellation); as well as to oppose the use of your personal data for specific purposes (opposition). These rights are known as ARCO rights; however, it is important that you keep in mind that not in all cases we will be able to conclude your request in the desired sense, since it is possible that due to some legal obligation we require to continue processing your personal data; also, you should consider that, for certain purposes, the revocation of your consent will imply that we cannot continue providing the service you requested, or the conclusion of your relationship with Turismo Gargo.

To exercise your ARCO rights, you can access the procedure that we have implemented, i.e., simply contact the personal data security area at the link https://mexrentacar.com/en/contact or by e-mail customer.care@mexrentacar.com , by writing a document in Spanish, including full name, a simple copy of your official identification or, in electronic media, a digitized version of the same (scan), indication of the e-mail or physical address you designate for notifications and a contact telephone number. Once this has been done, you will be informed within a maximum of 20 working days as to whether the request has been granted; in the event that a response letter is sent to the physical address indicated, the twenty days will be deemed to have elapsed upon delivery of the document to the postal service.
